Good Morning~

COM
I've been working diligently this past week on changes to my blog in hopes of a return today. There are a few  changes still needed before calling it complete but I can now resume my blogging efforts. I'm very excited to be back blogging among my friends and fellow bloggers alike. My last post was made January 2015. In the time that past I bought a new computer which had windows 8 initially. It almost made me stop using a computer all together as it was the most frustrating software I'd ever used in my life. It was NOT user friendly whatsoever. Shortly after my computer purchase I lost my external harddrive. Yes, that means I lost everything: poetry, pictures, files, etc... Luckily I had some photos uploaded elsewhere and will be able to save some. I also saved my poetry in other places and was able to restore almost all of my writings. As you well know with loss of that magnitude it takes time to restore. So  my time was initiated to the challenge of restoration.

May of last year brought new challenges. My dog who is a biter bit my right hand leaving my right index finger broken and severely infected. I went through a series of antibiotics and anti inflammatory medications to help it heal. This year it has no infection left to eat away at the bone but the right index finger (middle knuckle) is still swollen and the pain is still there. The doctor says that I had arthritis setting in and when my dog bit me it exacerbated my finger. Good news is the broken bone healed nicely and the pain could subside a little more with time.

Lastly, I've been an empty nester this past year. So, to fill the time I've been exercising and spending more time with my husband. I walk generally 6 miles everyday. I also lift weights (37) pounds and can do some pull ups without assistance. I portion my food daily with occasional slip ups inbetween. Now It's become such a habbit to exercise I don't feel right if I don't get it in. So, on that note I am going to leave you for my morning walk.

Watch this space as I will return this evening with a new post. Have a great day everyone.

I wanted to say I'm behind on my commenting as of late. Yesterday I wasn't feeling so good and today my feed reader isn't coming up. I will be around as soon as my feed reader is up and running again. Hopefully by tonight I can comment some.

For today's plans... I will be doing some dishes and afterward I hope to go outside to weed eat and clean my feeders so I can refill them. The birds always seem to enjoy their feedings. I also hope to go to town and pick up some flowers to plant. I might also pick up some mulch to put around the flowers. Hopefully the neighbors dogs will stay away from my planted flowers. They've already destroyed some of my young trees. Hope everyone has a great day~

Photography Club meeting

COM
Even though I woke to a cloudy morning the temperature outside is already 71 degrees. I hope this continues throughout the day because I have my photography club meeting tonight. We're planning on going out to the lake for some shooting and I'm thinking the warm weather will bring out the birds, at least. Going out to the lake will also allow me to practice what I learned at a Tony Sweet seminar last month.

Hardest challenge from my bow weekend was this rock climbing wall which stands at 35 ft and sports a zip line, top left. Closer I got to the top my arms became jelly, my heart raced and I was tired. Still... I climbed on. When I made it to the top platform I changed out ropes so I could purchase open air on the zip line. The whole experience was AweSome. What's been your hardest challenge outdoors?

archery

Archery was one of four workshops I took at the bow retreat. Another twelve to fifteen people took the class learning how to handle the bow properly. When instruction was finished we took turns shooting targets. We shot first at the target you see in the picture and then at some balloons, a 3d groundhog and a bracelet. After we shot these targets we lined up in two lines. We were allowed to shoot one arrow at the target. Whoever shot closest was left standing to shoot again. We did this until only one was left standing. My winning shot is shown in the photo above. Besides shooting a Genesis bow we also got to try shooting a crossbow similar to the one Daryl uses in The Walking Dead series.

bow (becoming an outdoors woman)

I'm back and rested after my trip to Lake Cumberland, Jabez, KY. I made my trip September 19- 22 to the 4H Camp weekend retreat/ workshop. I was becoming an outdoors woman. I did wildlife identification, archery, rock climbing/ ziplining and hiking. The lodge for which I stayed sat one mile from the lake and sported a rock climbing wall, hiking trails, swimming pool, a bird watch, a small cave and an old graveyard with two stone coffin crypts (one dated back to the 1700's).

I met some great people from the Salato Wildlife Center who brought a great horned owl and a black rat snake for the 100+ women to meet. It was exciting to be so close to the wildlife. Though we couldn't touch the owl we were afforded the privilege to hold the snake. At first I only took pictures.  As I warmed up to him I had my picture taken touching him and later holding him in my lap, his tongue tickling my arm.

I learned that a grapevine is not just for climbing but stores water for those needing a drink. I learned what a spice bush is and that you can make tea with it's leaves safely. You could eat the berries too but they won't taste good for its big seed. I learned that you can use the yeast of the huckleberry for cooking. I can now identify a beech tree and it's nuts. I learned that spring water isn't as safe to drink as I once thought. And, I ate a hickory nut for the first time. It was really good considering I don't like or eat nuts.

So... I wait for next year's workshops where I may try fly fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and ghillie making. Coming soon... photos!!

Trying to add a favicon in my address bar today but I can't get it to work. Any suggestions on what to do? I've tried using a jpg image and an ico extension and neither seem to update my address bar. Am I doing something wrong? Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

fabric journal

COM
As promised in an earlier post I'm sharing images of my first fabric journal. I didn't want to go purchase a new notebook to write my poetry in so I decided I was making a journal. I chose three different fabrics from what I already had for the cover, backing and trim. Then I took out my thread and my free motion quilting foot and began stitching together my book. I decided to use typing paper as my filler instead of buying lined sheets for me to write on. A few days later I had me a very nice, personal journal for writing. Since I didn't use a any interface I had to have my husband bring home some lightweight but stiff plastic to use as a hard surface to write on. It's easily inserted inside and works nicely. Next time I'll try using the interface to see the difference, if any. Also, I may include a pen/ pencil holder and a folder. Possibilities are endless~

Some time ago I signed up for a Google+ account and now I don't know how to use it, lol... Could one of my readers please tell me how to get started? And, could you +1 me so I could take a look at how you've created your Google+ page. Maybe if I could see someone's account I'd get a better picture of how it's run. Thanks so much for your help on this matter. Keep a watch on this space as I'm going to try again at posting regularly. I have a few photos, some writing and even a fabric journal to share with you. Have a great day everyone and don't forget to +1 me over at Google+. Just look for Naquillity Photography or click here...

Update: I have been able to friend some of you on Google+ and have figured out that +1 means you like someone's post and not that you've friended them.

Blogoversary~ wow! It's been 2 years since I started Naquillity and a combined 5 years of blogging counting my past blog. Since January of this year produced little results in my posting comeback I've decided to use my blogoversary to start communications again. So, watch this space...

Though I haven't posted anything new I have been busy writing and working in my art journal. I've also been reading, baking with yeast, spending time with my family and keeping up with my doctor visits. I look forward to sharing more of my day with everyone who's taken the time to follow me over the years. Thank you for your dedication, commenting and stories these past 5 years. May you all be blessed~

Happy Blogoversary Naquillity! May this be the start of something fresh and new.

Can anyone tell me how to fix the comments so they only show true comments and not anonymous ones?? My email inbox has been inundated with anonymous spam comments and they keep coming back everyday... Is there a way to fix this problem without adding word verification to my commenting form?? I know most commenting have trouble reading those verification codes and don't like the extra step of verification... Also, is there a way to turn off commenting on older posts?? I haven't been able to find it with this new Blogger layout. I know you used to be able to do this...

Has anyone tried using the Custom robots.txt or the Custom robots header tags?? If so, how does it work for you? Has it limited people from finding your blog in search?? Did it keep the robots from finding your blog posts??

Speed Dial~

6
COM
A little over two months ago was my last blog post... ouch... where has my time gone?? My life has been on speed dial since August and doesn't look to be slowing down much at all. I've been at the hospital doing cardio rehab three times a week when something else doesn't interfere. And, it's paying off as i've lost three pounds exercising and watching my food portions. Biggest thing is my tiredness is going away and I have energy to do the things I want & need to do.

I've also been learning how to coupon. Yes, you heard that right: couponing... For years money burned a hole in my pocket... my hands itched to turn money over to anyone willing to take it for something I didn't really need or in some cases really didn't want. Now, after taking a financial peace class earlier this year and learning how to coupon I can safely say I've learned to hold onto my money. I have saved almost $800 this year alone. My goal is to hit $1,000 before years end. If I don't spend any of my money between now and Christmas I will be $43 short of reaching my goal. Not bad for someone who couldn't save a dime...

Lastly, I've had more computer woes in these last two months than all year long... My computer had a virus or trojan that crashed my computer. My husband worked on it for a month trying to restore it back to normal but in the end he had to take it to someone and have them reset it to factory settings... When I finally got everything back the way I wanted the internet started running slow and ultimately our provider (Windstream) had a mass internet outage. Just got the internet back up and running the other day~

This month I have two photos hanging in our local gallery alongside other wonderful photographers. Last month I had three. It's been a different experience for me to print my photos for a showing like this each month but a very good learning curve. Seems something different happens with each printing. Today I'll be reading my poetry for an open mic downtown. Exciting times for sure. Let me know in the comments below what's been going on in your neighborhood??

The sun had broken through puffy, white clouds this morning as I entered my SUV and headed down route 68 for Lexington, KY. I passed along winding, back roads in Paris so I could see horses grazing in open fields. It wouldn't be long before I would meet my blogging friend Caron from A Piece of News. Cantuckee Diner would be our destination.

Arriving safely Caron, her mom, niece, nieces friend & I strode inside to have a lunch plate from the buffet. We filled our plates with wholesome, country eating. Afterwards we ordered desert: butterscotch pie, banana pudding, chocolate pie & coconut pie.  I don't know that we truly decided which was our favorite. Between food & drink we carried conversations as if we'd been friends for a long while.

Back outside we captured the moment while talking excitedly about our possible meetup in December. We'll explore Cincinnati perhaps atop Carew Tower or alongside the downtown fountain. Whatever the choice may be it'll be shared with a good friend.

If all goes well I will be meeting a blogging friend for the first time. I'm excited beyond words.  Since I've started blogging I've made some great connections and have wanted to meet each unique, creative person. Maybe this will be the start of a new trend and I'll get to see more of you over the years. Have a blessed day~

Received good news Friday. My blood work & ct scans came back showing no signs of my cancer returning. And... I get to do my ct scans once a year now (instead of twice) because everything came back clean. I'll have my blood work done again in January.

I'll be going for a substitute cook training August 2nd. This will determine if I can become a cook for a local school system.  The training consists of watching a video and answering questions, lasting 4 hrs.

August 7th I'll be returning to my heart specialist to see the results of my nuclear stress test (myoview, lexiscan). I'm hoping it will give me the answers I seek about my continued tiredness, shortness of breath, etc...

Really looking forward to Wednesday... won't say what's happening that day, just yet. But, it's going to be a great day. I'll share more on this mystery later.

Almost forgot... I will be working on a picture to post as soon as I can. It's a horseshoe cowboy and a red guitar. Both pictures were taken months apart but were definitely meant to be together. I may even try to make it an animated pic... stay tuned~

feelin' blue~

COM

This day I've walked among the blues. Somewhere between grey and emotion. I've been tagged like a cow readied for the stock yard. I've been waiting one hour already... waiting, simply... waiting. My throat is hoarse from the invasion of a week long sore throat/ cold. The emergency waiting room is cold and I'm tired. They call my number; 53. Finally, I think, I can get this process started. Only I'm told they don't have my ct scan or blood work order yet. I have to wait. Another hour passes when they call my number, "53." This time I'm to follow the blue arrows to the lab where they take two vials of blood. I watch as my pale skin bruises at the fold in my right arm. Soon I'm back in the lobby. I'm being escorted to another room where my ct scans will be administered. By the time I'm finished I look like a drug user with a bad habit for shooting heroin.

red winged blackbird

Momma red winged blackbird & her mate begin swooping from power lines as soon as I exit my SUV. They're protesting loudly to my approach. Now standing at pond's edge where cattails hover over my five foot frame I can see what momma was trying to tell me. Sitting quietly among the cattails is a baby red winged blackbird who hasn't lost all it's downy feathers. He or she stares inquisitively at my stalking never leaving its perch. I imagine one day it'll be brave as its momma whose still swooping and protesting my presence.

As most of you know from a quick note  I had trouble commenting on some of your blogs. I have since found a solution for commenting on Blogger's embedded comment forms. My current browser is Mozilla Firefox.  I love it but sometimes it doesn't function well with websites or blogs as I've recently found out. After a suggestion from a fellow blogger/ facebook friend to use Google Chrome I decided to check out my Internet Explore. I'm happy to report this worked. So far I've had no problems.

But, I still can't comment on some Wordpress blogs. My problem seems to be that I deleted my Wordpress blog (thinking this would clear the problem up) before changing my primary email address. So, now I have no access to the Wordpress blog which I didn't use anyway and no way to change the email address associated with it, lol. Does anyone know a way to fix this?? There has to be a way around this issue. I know I could use my personal facebook account to sign in but I don't want to do that. I'd rather sign in using my blog name so as to direct people to my blog instead of my personal facebook account. Anyone have any suggestions??

I wish I could say this was my only technical problem at the moment but, it's not. When we tried to load software for my new Cannon ink jet printer last night we had problems installing. So, we decided to wait until today to work on it. When I turned on my computer this morning I found that I couldn't go to my C or G drives.  I'm a little flustered as that's where I store all my poetry, photos, downloads, etc... Here's hoping my hubby can restore everything while also installing my printer software.
