water's fickle surface- beyond,
the sun becomes tie dyed wrinkles,
raised waves of sparkly Braille letters-
those seafaring, pointy setters
frontally scudding with the wind.
you would have understood me
had you waited my fingertips
to chafe your salty collection.

articulating sweet brown sugar
between my toes.
with each restless tabla (drum)
my feet release night's keepsake-
crushed brown grapes
churned into riverwine-
somewhere between black faith
and green, that dangerous hour,
that bruises a molasses wind.

embraced in amniotic fluid
you formed tiny memories
of a mother’s laughter
and a father’s ear acting as
stethoscope against my swelled belly.
you grew viably in a dreary,
black room, fetal-tucked
for nine month’s
waiting to see first signs of
ambient light.
fireworks stung the sky: bruised,
making you timid about your arrival.
when you finally crawled to
the white light I noticed your forehead
was the color of midnight.

Sunlight metamorphosis into shadow and back again while chasing the wind into nervous green leaves. Their underbelly, slightly upturned, skews the water's reflection into a myriad of trajectories. Its movement reminds me of minnows swimming a swift current.
Evening light swabs cool shadows across a brown shelled snail whose palpable geometry rests on the center vertebrae of a waterlogged branch. My eyes fall there. He's the first I've seen since early childhood.

Bare feet, hard floor dictate her prose.
She wanders Mammaw's living room.
One foot, left foot, right- look at her
Causing Papaw's blackbird a stir.
She pirouette's to her own tune,
In unperfected time and style
She crosses her stage with a smile-
This growing, six year old, fleshplume.
My poem is based on a childhood memory while visiting my mammaw and papaw.

Push thirty two shades of
Red, yellow and orange
From your limb
While watching your
Exposed cambium
Suffer winter's boast.
I shall let the wind
Whiffle, whet each leaf,
As they hasten across
Earthen tones and,
Bare difference to
Stretched green-brown
Landscapes.
I shall let the wind
Ache for a new day
And, fresh new leaves.

bleeding the sky blue-gray
to gray-white morning
a cacophony of raindrops
thrash on the back deck.
my eyes seek an unobstructed
view of the rain-
a moth seeking shelter
from the cold, vindictive drops
pelting her spotted brown wings.
time continues to tick
in an effortless circle
as my eyes tock upon
fifteen blackbirds
lined across a tightrope.
they flap away the cold
my hands hold
as I reach to
close the door.

Abandoned Trestle

Snoqualmie Falls
Abandoned Trestle
Seattle, Washington
My eyes linger on
Vintage remnants
Once born against a
Threadbare mountain.
Refurbished land, splintered green
An abandoned trestle
Lies on sutured ground,
Ingrained by parallel seams.
Her aged black skin
Perspiring beneath a creosote sun
Is paused
For a train never sounding
Her intoned whistle.
A sloping north hemisphere
Bestowing icy Snowqualmie Falls,
White spittle dredged my skin.

Love Letter
Painting courtesy of Stellan K at Hopeless Poet blog. Her ebony hair whittled
From a raven's feather
Cascades her shoulders, full quotation
Like evensong in November
Catching on a dilated sun
Until it falls in thin wisps around her fingertips.
The outline of the letter hides quartered fingertips
In open crags of white storm a solace whittled
Against the equinoctial sun
Those camber words carved with a second feather
Become an erased November
Slumbering in soldered quotation
Her love becomes a bruised quotation
Fielded to her flaccid fingertips
Where tears dry against a canvassed November.
She watches while her whittled
Sanctuary falls against the nevermore feather
Sanctioned by the pneumatic sun.
She allowed the inceptive sun
Time to refrain from guarded quotation
Of indigo sky and tree that feather
Surrounding mountains before she used casual fingertips
To place his forgotten and whittled
Name into parched November
Earth. She caressed the sleeping November
With her hand warm as forgiving sun
Until the subjacent field was whittled
Away from her sight. Then she buried in sandy quotation
His last love letter. Her creased fingertips
Like an obfuscated feather.
She woke to a raven's fallen feather
A keepsake from an edged November
That washed her lithe fingertips
With a glint of mourning sun.
She began her daily quotation,
Tears evicted and whittled.
Her heart his death whittled, empty, broken like tip of a feather
A requisite quotation before grains of earthen November
And ides sun sand through her fingertips.

Tangles in tiny fingers
Entwining mother and baby
In pastime lullaby's.
Sandman arrives half-past midnight
With variegated dreams
Caught in his pocket.
Butterfly wings
And, lightning bug things
Eager to play
Upon watercolor seams.
Laughter's sinuous perfume
Dances into sacculated clouds
Where Sandman takes his bow.
