Cold winter wind scuds across my face as I tread along a half frozen yard in my pajamas. Across the road I have spied an eastern fox squirrel in a tree. Two horses are foraging in the field below. The small pond has a thin layer of ice over its surface. I'm inching my way closer to the fence which divides us, there. I stand before the fence longing to climb over but I know I'll scare the squirrel from its perch. The horses continue to shuffle along as I raise my camera to photograph a winter's story.

I love this photo with the huge and tiny animals.
Idyllic scene!
I saw a dead cow this weekend that looked a lot like that horse. I'm glad the horse is in much better shape.
There is life amid the bare branches ...
That is a new squirrel to me. The branches frame this shot beautifully. It is a keeper.
Love it! What a great photo with the horse and squirrel. Don't you love sneaking up on wildlife successfully?
Seems odd to me to not see snow in that photo :)
Instant love :)
That is a new squirrel to me Michelle, I will have to go look it up.... Lovely photos even with the cold weather, you find joy in nature... Michelle
Well done on capturing these two in the same shot, you must have been soft footing it around like some sort of ninja!!
That photo is nicely framed.
You must have been very quiet.
I have a couple fox squirrels that come daily...every now and then 3...last winter I had 7 and 8. I think this winter that a couple are
Mama Squirrel's babies.
I seem to be more and more horse...and they all look at me expectantly...like they think I should have them some kind of treat.
Great capture! Love the little squirrel and the coloring on the horse.
Very nice. You are getting some great shots this winter. There are some semi-wild horses I want to photograph on the road we travel to the ski area. They had snow on their backs the other day but we didn't stop. Now you've inspired me! It's great how you focus on the squirrel... hope you get to print this out.
What a great way to start the new year. Your photos and reflections would make a great book at the end of 2015!
