She sits above her winter garden
On nature's tightrope, lingering
Among bare trees and pines.
She's balancing her plumpness
Against winter's cold hand
As she turns her face right, then left.
Below her lies a slushy footpath
Outlined with old and new berries.
Somewhere between gray skies
And evening's close I watch
Her careering flight back home.

This is exquisite, Michell!
"Nature's tightrope, lingering" and
"winter's cold hand" - just beautiful images.
"Between gray skies and evening's close" also a lovely image.
I adore this!
Kat
That is the most HEAVENLY prose I have ever read!!! Beautiful photo and presentation, Michelle. Do you know how TALENTED you are!!!
Happy Holidays, dear. :D
Hugs, JJ
I feel sorry for that bird -- so cold and lonely on that snow laden branch.
Beautiful, both the photo and the text. That bird does look cold!
I also loved the very visual image of Nature's tightrope, lingering"!
Especially the lingering part.
Nice!
So beautiful! I love it.
Gorgeous poem and picture.
I saw a blue heron in the park the other day and thought to myself, "Naquillity would have been able to get a great photo of that." :)
what a lovely bird and she blends so beautifully into the scenery
Lovely poem and of course I want to know what the bird is...hmmm.... Michelle
Your poem and the photo are both beautiful!
Absolutely lovely! I can picture it all and it's beautiful.
"balancing her plumpness" made me smile.....as we all seem to do that, at this time of the year.....
"sure i'll have another frosted cookie to eat....and some more pie while you're at it.....and let's have some eggnog to wash it down with".....
so lovely~
You took me to her wonderful home and season.
What a perfect winter shot!
Awesome melding of visual and text! Brilliance here. Bravo!
So calm and pretty. You have such a way with words!
I agree with Lisa...you do have a way with words and they go so well with the photo....Michelle
What a lovely poem!
Beautiful! You are so observant of nature. Your verse is a solace to read.
I love the words and the little bird. Wonderful post. Hope all is well.
