hide and seek
inside pine tree branches
white capped sparrow
Yesterday while bundled up in layers of warm clothes I took my camera outside in the snow. This white capped sparrow was hiding inside the pine tree branches. Luckily he posed for me long enough.
I want to say thank you to Kat and Lisa for their sharp eyes as they helped me identify the bird as a white capped sparrow not a downy woodpecker.

lucky you...those birds are always that easy....
Lovely to get a chance to see a woodpecker!
I can barely see him. Nice that the leaves on the tree are still green.
what a nice shot! you were lucky the birdie cooperated. :<)

Wonderful winter shot. Downy woodpeckers are so much fun to watch.
He looks like a white-crowned sparrow when I enlarge the photo. He sure is camouflaged!

Just popping in to say hello and to wish you a beautiful day.
No no no, I want everyone to tell me the truth or I won't know what's right! I appreciate you telling me... believe me! Thank you!
Ok, I have to back up & see what I did wrong... OH! I ran the vintage thru twice... ok! I'll know better next time...
Thank you, seriously! =)
Ohhh nice shot! The trees looks so pretty surrounding the bird... Very cool! =)
I'm sorry to say that's a white capped sparrow - but I love seeing them too! So much fun to watch! :)
kat thanks for having a sharp eye. after you told me it was a white capped sparrow i was able to also identify it in my field guide. i'll change it and give you credit.
tricia i'm so pleased you didn't get upset. your work is always so pleasing to look at and i hated to see it not working. also, thanks for the mouse over instructions.
lisa after Kat's comment i looked it up in my field guide again and found it did favor the white capped sparrow. thanks for supporting Kat's observation.
thanks to everyone else for stopping by and leaving such kind comments. i enjoy reading them immensely. have a great night...
wow...he was really hidden. I had to click on the photo to really see his lovely head stripes.
Your day in the snow, birdwatching and photo taking, sounds wonderful. I'm glad you can enjoy the outdoors and the fresh snowfall!
We had a pair of these in the backyard at Dane Street and used to call them Lance and Sheryl after Lance Armstrong and Sheryl Crow. Why, you may ask? Well, those stripes reminded us of bicycle helmets!
