Yesterday we went Christmas shopping and managed to get almost everyone on our list a gift. That's a feat in and of itself as my husband hates shopping. When we came off the exit into the city the first thing I spied were these geese. They were flying over the shopping centers. First, one way and then the next. After I snapped a few shots of these beautiful geese. I was fortunate enough to see what I think was a blue heron flying towards the town's pond.

What a beautiful picture! I'm like your husband--not the shopper, especially when I'm surrounded by crowds. I'd rather watch the geese in the freezing cold than enter a mall right now.

Yes. That's a blue heron, heading to the left of screen. They are marvelous birds. I love them.
And to add my real life observations to Julia's: they are quietly strong and observant. Patient, skilled, relentless. And beautiful.

I love herons. Although we don't have any here, they are often seen on the pond near where my father lives.

Wonderful to get both geese and a heron! I love watching how they all fly. Bird behavior is interesting when you get started watching all the details.
