A Single Cricket

Yesterday we pulled two chairs in front of an opened back door to watch this. During that time my daughter looked down at the deck floor and saw a single cricket. Naturally I was taking pictures of the other commotion when I trained my eye on this tiny creature. At first I thought this was a grasshopper but the differences between the eyes and antenna's were significant enough for me to call him a cricket. I think he's a young one too. When he began hopping away I followed him across the deck with my camera as close as I dared for fear of him jumping on me and watched him leap from the deck in one single bound. The picture below was another favorite from this series as he seemed to be watching my closely.

That's a great shot of the cricket. I hear them and know there must be thousands in my yard but rarely see them.

I am amazed that this little thing embarked on an adventure on your vernadah! I too have never actually seen one, but I have heard them! Great photos!

Now I remember crickets has also this distinguished sound and I think this creatures are the one living somewhere in my garden plot. I heard them more often now, but I don't mind though. Great shot to this one and happy weekend!

Perfect pictures.
We use to have TONS of crickets here in Canada, now it seemslike they've disappeared. I love listening to them "do their thing" chirping away at night. Miss that sound. Great capture, thanks for a nice memory too.

We had a cricket in the house the other day -- supposed to be good luck. I rescued him and put him outside.

To be honest, crickets kinda creep me out. I really don't want one on me either! Cute shots, he looks about ready to pop up on you!
See the long sword like thing on the end...it is the female's ovipositor that she used to lance open vegetation to lay eggs...I think it is a hopper of some kind..will have to do some research..it is so wonderful to catch these little things that bring a smile to our faces....
Well done on capturing these shots, I hear these creatures a lot but I've rarely spotted any.

Cute little thing! I hate when they get in the basement and are real noisy...and I can't find them to move them back outside.
