Quietude

Heat. It stifles the air's circulation as sweat glides into quiet, dark places on my skin. Chiggers have already made their new home on my legs. A receding sun illuminates ornamental grass standing four feet tall. These blossomed clumps of grass are entangled in a spider's web.

I've already passed berries on a strong vine and can hear frogs jumping into the pond. I've spotted deer and other wildlife tracks along the way. When I circle past the energy path I spot a female red-winged blackbird and a deer crossing the meadow.

The female bird is playing a game of hide-n-seek among the cattails while the doe forages for food at pond's end. It's with baited breath I stand among them, watching in their quietude.

Lovely photo of the grass and spider threads. I find grass heads very hard to photograph.

A beautiful post with a tranquil photo.

I'm sorry about the chiggers, though: had not encountered these before...
