Pulled Over

Today my daughter and I had a strange thing happen. We were driving home when I saw a turkey vulture on the side of the road that I wanted to photograph.  Nearing the red light I asked her to turn left and pull to the shoulder.  We were completely stopped at this point watching for passing traffic. When the way was cleared we crossed over two lanes and a median before stopping at the new light that would take us back to the vulture.

During this process we looked down the road to see a police car coming our way.

My daughter immediately says, "OH MY GOD, I don't have my driver's license!" Naturally I start to dig mine out, just in case.  Once the police car arrives at the light he pulls up between our SUV and the median.  When the light changes the police starts inching his way between our SUV and the car in front of us.

When the flashing lights came on I have to say I was a little worried we might be in some trouble. We pulled over and the car in front done the same. It's then the police gets out and talks with the other guy. Relieved, we pulled ahead, grabbed some shots of said vulture and turned back towards home.

Glancing over from the infamous red light we see the car is still pulled over with that same cop AND another. I'm wondering what that guy did to get on the bad side of those cops? Plus, why would he get pulled over when he'd been sitting at the red light for a bit?

Lastly, is it still considered a U turn if you pull to the shoulder and turn back the way you came? We thought we were in trouble because of this.

I know nothing about driving but I feel your fear as the cop's car comes near but great shot of the vulture

Great close shot! Birds are hard for me; I sometimes do ok but I think I need a bigger lens. Really nice work, Michelle. As for the cop car; we all get a little nervous for no reason, it seems.

The other day I was really zipping down a road and a cop was coming the other way. Oops. Fortunately it took him a while to turn around and another guy was speeding a ways behind me and the cop settled for him. *phew*

The vulture shot is great. A little gross, of course. But great.

love the fotos brings us right there with you... isn't it funny how scared we get when a cop is behind us as if we are the criminals... now back to the roadkill... that looks pretty fresh and grusome...sorry... it is hard to imagine the ease with which you took it...

lissa thanks lissa. i worried about the vulture's meal being bothersome to some. glad you like the shot.

quiet paths i'd love to have a bigger lens or at the very least a 2x extender.

utenzi sounds like you barely escaped a certain fate yourself. isn't always better when it's the other guy and not us?

one more believer yeah, it's funny how we get scared even when we don't feel we did anything wrong. as for the shot... i was four lanes across from him standing through my open sunroof. i felt pretty safe surrounded by the confines of my SUV, grin... i have walked within probably 10ft of one before though. it was a rush. sorry the vulture's meal was offsetting.

have a great day everyone~

Yikes! Glad he was after the other guy and not you. Great shot of the Turkey Vulture! I see them quite frequently here, but I've never gotten that close.

It sounds like you were living dangerously there for awhiles!

And that bird is quite a chunky guy!

P.S. I have had so much trouble trying to post comments here! Not sure why! Finally (the one I deleted) was accepted but it was one I posted on another blog about flowers! Very weird!
Hopefully this one may work!

I love it when opportunities like this come along and I am gladd to see that I am not the only one who turns back for a photo opportunity :)

Glad you got the vulture. I hate it when that happens with police! When I was coming back from my parents' a cop appeared behind suddenly, and I slowed to move over and he zipped on by, whew! Was happy to see Mr Speedy get pulled over!
