My husband and daughter were on a country road last year when they saw these two deer: a doe and her fawn. The mother crossed quickly into the woods but as you'll see the baby had... a little trouble finding the right place to jump.
Feathers
Upon our return home last night from town we saw these feathers close to the feeder. At first I was upset with our neighbors chihuahua for killing the bird. Then their kids came over and asked what I was doing and what did this? I couldn't answer them because I didn't know. One of them even suggested a cat but, my cat is a house cat with diabetes unable to go outside anymore. Our neighbors only have dogs or no pets. Could two birds have fought over the food leaving one dead or dying somewhere? I've never known two birds to fight so violently.
On a lighter note, I saw two deer in different places on the way home. The one standing next to the guardrail ready to jump at a given instant was a doe with black tipped ears and the sweetest face. I hope she waited until all the cars passed by before crossing the highway.

After eating Chinese Saturday evening the family and I went to a local nature preserve. Turkey vultures circling above the mountains and deer grazing in a small clearing were but two living creatures we'd seen before entering the preserve. The sun was shining and the breeze waxed gentle across our skin.
Our daughter took down a footpath with her bike beneath her while my husband and I went down another path to a small pond filled with frogs. There was a distinct comfort surrounding each of us as we parted. My husband went in search of archaeological finds as I snapped pictures of unsuspecting frogs.
Before evening closed its eyes on the last bits of daylight I was able to film two frogs mating and another sounding its chorus (check video in sidebar for the latter). Evening's eyelids are heavier now as we walk back along the earlier path. It's there our daughter sees her first bat flying in open sky.
Three Deer
After eating Mexican last night we drove home with our stomachs full. On both sides of the highway I spotted mother deers and their young. A few minutes later I was rushing inside my home grabbing my camera.
Upon returning to one of their common grazing spots I noticed a mother deer with her two babies grazing along a tree lined path. Each of the deer stood with pricked ears watching our every move, quietly. The babies inched closer to their mother with each click.
Not wanting to disturb these gentle creatures any longer we drove down the road a small piece to find the other mother and baby had already gone back into the nearby woods.
