Great photography, but I am getting out of here quickly. I can't even stand to look at snakes in my field guides!
My doggie and I just saw one of these in our garden but he had a dead toad in its mouth ~ Nature's Way.

Even if it's just a 'common garter snake'....you're all too brave for me. I'd be running in the opposite direction.
Nice close-up - we see those around here sometimes. They used to startle me if I was mowing the lawn!
