cooper's hawk

Pictured is a cooper's hawk. She/ he flew onto this post in front of my house one Nov 2014 morning. Naturally I ran to get my camera. She/ he stayed long enough for me to snap this image through the glass of my front door. It's rare to see them this close to my home. They usually fly in around the other end of our neighborhood as there's more tree cover.

That is a gorgeous bird! We used to get those gigantic birds in Illinois. Their size always amazed me when they would swoop down.
