red winged blackbird

Here's a female red winged blackbird letting me know she's not at all happy with me spying her through my lens. She's acting out quite loudly behind the trumpet vines and barbed wire fence. Perhaps she has some baby birds nesting just out of my sight? She never left that area until I moved away. Makes one wonder, doesn't it? Happy July everyone~

Excellent capture! I am glad you were able to focus on the bird instead of the wire and plants.

I can't believe it's July already! Sheesh! I miss seeing those redwing blackbirds in the fields. I love their spectacular coloring.

Guess you'll be seeing some chicks bumbling about soon!

She must have had babies, like you said, somewhere near... wonderful captures thru the branches =)

How pretty, she looks loud even from here! Thanks again for your thoughts and prayers, hopefully I won't need to post any more wildfire updates (although when we are finally allowed back in the office I'm sure I'll have some photos to post from the burn area).

Great shot of the anxious bird.

Maybe she did..and aren't the males lucky..they have multiple mates and nests and no responsibility to raise the young...

I recall a nature walk many years ago. We came across a bird on the ground that was dragging its wing and making a huge ruckus. We realized that she was trying to lure us away from a clutch of young.

While we felt bad about stressing her out, we kept watching her for a time because it was simply fascinating to see something so desperately natural.

They are such a vocal bird, anyway. I saw a nest earlier this year but was out just a bit too far for me to see what was in it.
