Here's another sooc (straight out of camera) photo from our visit to the zoo earlier this year. This guy framed up nicely in the photo don't you think? I have more zoo photos if you'd like to see them but you'll have to scroll through the images a bit. Once you've scrolled far enough you'll see a lesser adjutant stork, white tiger, sumatran rhinoceros, red panda & a spangled cotinga. If you decide to look at the other photos let me know which is your favorite.

Locked Posts

This morning has turned out to be a good morning to fix some of the issues I spoke of last night. My dear friend Lissa came over for a visit today and helped me put my blog title back to center. After that I was able to replace the code for the locked posts. They are up and working again. So, the new blog that would have replaced the locked posts is no more... sorry for any  inconvenience this may have caused. Locked post passwords are still the same as before.

Now I'm off to see if I can fix my related posts and replace the Blogger B beside my blog address with my own icon. Wish we luck.

Update:  Everything is restored back to its original state now. No more issues to contend with. Thanks for your patience during this time.

Since having to give up my last blog I've wanted a space where I could share things about me and my family, etc. My locked posts were such a place until I made some changes to Naquillity. Most of you who've visited may have noticed I've changed my blog theme and with that came some unexpected changes within. First, I can't seem to put my blog title back in the middle, second I had each post set up to show related posts now they're gone and lastly my locked posts were wiped out. You can't view them anymore. Though I can't fix the first two issues I have found a solution for the locked posts.

I'm in the process of creating a new blog. It will host invited readers (one time sign-in password) only. Once you've signed in you'll get to know me through my family, thoughts & pictures, lots of pictures. If this sounds good to you then sign up below and I'll send you a personal invitation. If you think I don't have your email and you'd like an invitation shoot me an email to: naquillity at hotmail dot com and I'll get an invitation to you as quickly as possible.

Tomorrow we'll return to regularly scheduled nature posts. Thanks for your patience during this brief intermission. Hope everyone had a great weekend.

You'll find a direct link to my new blog under the header called grey... Look forward to seeing you there.

Please note that invitations will be coming from a different e-mail than Naquillity because I couldn't set up the new blog without making a new account.

Seeking Cover

Who says underexposed photos can't be salvaged? Tonight I chose a dark photo of mine and did nothing more than play with the lighting & color of the photo. I rather like the effect at play. The end result looks like a painting, doesn't it? So, what do you do with the photos you think has no potential?

Relaxing

COM

The photo above is from two pictures I took on Tuesday. The colt was relaxing in another field altogether. I really liked this barn in b&w and thought adding the colt with it's jolt of orange color would be a nice addition. I'm still learning photoshop so, if you enlarge the photo you'll see that it's not as smooth as it should be. But, in time I hope to get better with my skills. Next week (Tuesday & Thursday) will be my last classes for PSE, sigh. From there I'm on my own. Hope everyone's having a great day.

Petunias

One of the many things that caught my eye the other day while riding around with my daughter. I think the flowers are petunias. If I'm wrong please correct me. Aren't these simply beautiful?

Emu

Tonight I played in PSE with an emu picture that I'll be presenting at my photography club in August. I'm rather impressed with how it turned out considering the original (below). I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use the gaussian blur on the background's image instead of the emu itself but... otherwise, I cropped the image and used the cloning tool.  If anyone uses Photoshop Elements 8 and knows how to use the gaussian blur on the background please let me know as I'd like to make the emu the prominent figure.

Going Out

COM

I was going to try writing a poem today for this picture but, instead I'll be going for a ride around town with my daughter. She's agreed to take me somewhere today so I can get out of the house. I've had a sore throat/ cold now since last Tuesday. I'm a bit agitated today and just wanted to get out and take pictures. Hope everyone's having a great day. See you tomorrow.

Fleeting Moments

When I spotted the first rabbit it was alone, a single cottontail hopping around a stop sign.  It's tiny nose stuck close to the morning's wet ground. I was standing in the kitchen when I saw the rabbit out my window. When I'd stepped outside onto the back deck.  It'd gone.

That fleeting moment, however, coaxed me to look around the neighborhood one last time before stepping back inside my house. My spirits were lifted once again when I saw, not one but, two rabbits sniffing around the neighbor's storage building. Another neighbor's chocolate lab began to bark and caused them to take shelter beneath a butterfly bush. I watched as their cottontails bobbed through the cool morning's breeze.

Quietude

COM
Heat. It stifles the air's circulation as sweat glides into quiet, dark places on my skin. Chiggers have already made their new home on my legs. A receding sun illuminates ornamental grass standing four feet tall. These blossomed clumps of grass are entangled in a spider's web.

I've already passed berries on a strong vine and can hear frogs jumping into the pond. I've spotted deer and other wildlife tracks along the way. When I circle past the energy path I spot a female red-winged blackbird and a deer crossing the meadow.

The female bird is playing a game of hide-n-seek among the cattails while the doe forages for food at pond's end. It's with baited breath I stand among them, watching in their quietude.

Busy

Sorry for my long absence and poor commenting. I've recently spent time with family & friends. I've gone to see the movies: Eclipse, Avatar The Last Airbender, Predators and Grown Ups. Grown Ups had some funny moments in it but wasn't worth going to see in my opinion. The other movies were excellent. Adrien Brody was incredible in his lead role for Predators. If they make another Predators movie I'd like to see him come back to the role.

My husband & I attended a picnic at the lake with some friends & new faces. It was most enjoyable. The next picnic is scheduled for tomorrow but I don't know if I'll be able to make it as I'd planned earlier because my sore throat has turned into cold symptoms. I feel extremely run down.

For those who don't know, my cat has been diagnosed with diabetes and I have to give an insulin shot to him every morning. It breaks my heart to see him go through this but at least he's able to be with us due to giving those shots.

I've also been attending my photography club meetings and my Photoshop Elements classes.  I'm learning the basics of PSE. Thursday night I started organizing my photos in PSE's organizer and found the organization it allows for my photos is great. I'll never go unorganized again.

Almost forgot, last Sunday my daughter and I went to an abandoned house and a nature preserve where I was able to get some new pictures. I'll try to share some of them in the coming days.

I'll be making some commenting rounds today and tomorrow to get me on solid grounding again. From there I hope to stay on track. Hope everyone has been well. Have a great day.

Praying Mantis

COM

A praying mantis hangs upside down at the rim of a mason jar waiting with genuflected front legs to be released into a chilly summer night. Night air scuds across his tiny, triangular face as he allows one leg and another to grab hold of the fishlike bark in front of him. He crawls slowly across its back to the tip exiting in front of our house.

From the west side of our back porch there's a grand daddy long legs careering forward with stealth and stalk. He's hungry. Moving a bit faster along a single plank he closes distance between him and the praying mantis. He miscalculates his prey when a sudden pounce is thrust upon the long legs' tick sized body.

Beneath a single porch light I became a voyeur watching death and survival take place instantly. My heart ached for long legs' cruel death though I found it exciting the praying mantis would live to see another day wake.
