Fox Squirrel
One of my readers kindly pointed out the squirrel above is actually a fox squirrel. Thanks Faith, Fabric & Photos for the heads up. I've always known them to be red squirrels. When I looked at the differences they were significant. Thanks again Mary~

Incredible little cutie! Love the pretty lighting round the leaves framing the beauty of the squirrel's colouring!
I wonder, Naquillity, if these are rare in your neck of the woods? The grey cousins have nearly pushed our red ones out.
However, we were thrilled to watch a small cluster in Scotland this summer. My pix. aren't brilliant: was trying out a tripod for the first time, but should post a couple anyway soon...
There are a few still left in Scotland but as Caroline mentions, the Greyson are very dominant. Looks like this little guy has spotted something.
Just in the last few years, red squirrels came to our property and mixed with the gray aquirrels already there!
I think this is a Fox Squirrel. It is the kind I have here. I had so many and lately have had none, but assume they will be back for the winter and all the free food I give them.
Great shot. It shows up his red highlights so well.
It looks like the red squirrels here, but maybe ours are fox squirrels.
I wouldn't have known either, but this is a beautiful shot whichever it is.
Hi there,
Great lighting on the foliage in this photo. That squirrel certainly has the colors of a fox. Wow! I've never seen one that color. Beautiful.
hello. thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a nice comment. You have beautiful nature and animal images here.. I have 'red' squirrels too.. I feed them peanuts every day-- they are quite bold and come right up to me. I also have gray squirrels but they run off when I came out.
i have never even heard of a fox squirrel...who knew ?
As promised my Red Squirrel pix are now up here ...
He's a cutie!
I'd rather see him in a tree, than on a utility pole. You know how many power outages are caused by squirrels? A LOT!
I never knew a name for them at all until I started blogging :-) They are the only squirrel I usually see, so they were just "squirrels" to me! Then someone in another country asked me about them and I found out their real name. Since then I've seen grey and white squirrels...would love to see some red ones or those gorgeous black ones that some people see.
Beautiful squirrel..we don't have that species here in NY...
