This male goldfinch was a character over labor day weekend. He was not only bold in color but in attitude as well. When we drove up to the driveway we saw him eating from the feeder. He flew to the barbed wire fence and waited patiently for us to go inside. When he came back to the feeder I had grabbed my camera. He was caught with a sunflower seed in his beak.
Afterwards my husband and daughter went outside to throw their new Nerf football. The goldfinch returned. He tried to eat more seeds when the football came hurling about a foot away from the feeder. Needless to say he wasn't happy with them. He squawked at them and flew around their heads letting them know he wasn't happy he couldn't eat his dinner in peace.

Great shot of the goldfinch. Sometimes the birds definitely let us know when we get in their way. I enjoyed your story.
They can be kind of pushy. I have birdbath in my garden, and sometimes a finch or two comes while I am working, and sits on the edge until I move out of the way.
A glorious bird! I thought our UK Goldfinches were colo(u)rful, but this is something else!
what a gorgeous little bird! thanks for sharing, we don't have much to see here (birdwise) except for the occasional barn swallow or crow.
Hugs friend and Happy Weekend, G

That's too funny. That bird looks beautiful.
Beautiful bird! We get them too and they are so much fun to watch!
My Aunt & Uncle's housecat (declawed) caught a bird this weekend. I keep wishing there was a photo for proof.
One of the amazing things for me about "nature" is that years after being "wild," she still has that urge. Not always the skill, but the drive.
Oh, he is so beautiful!
Perfect photo!
That is a very...gold goldfinch. The British variety is not nearly as colourful, as Caroline says. I'm learning a lot about North American birds and beasties from your blog.
What a striking bird, the goldfinch. I miss seeing them and am so pleased to see your photo, hear your story. Sigh.
Great image...I love yellow colour against the backdrop
Poor wee finch, how would your hubby like a football thrown at him while he was sitting eating his beef casserole?!?! haha.
I do love goldfinches! My males are starting to molt and look pretty "ratty" already. I notice on yours the same thing I noticed on many of mine...the white wing bars don't seem to show making them look so very black!
your goldfinches are so much more yellow than ours! Beautiful photo and he sounds a real character too!
Lovely photo! So colourful birdie.
i so enjoy yr photos and stories that are attached.... birds have such wonderful eccentric personalities... love to hear their chatter in the wee hours of morning as spring opens her windows... and then as summer winds down the occasional sound of a lingering bird...
Sounds like a tough little guy with lots of spunky character! Great little story and love the photo!
