Seven sparrows in my front yard the other morning. They're foraging for the fallen seeds from the bird feeder. I love when they come to visit and get a bite before the grackles appear and scare them away. Those grackles can be bullies. What birds visit your bird feeder?

I wish I had sparrows...the sparrow is very special to me. I have hummingbirds, chickadees and some sort of small bluebird occasionally...but mostly chipmunks. :)
I don't keep feeders out in the summer, but my garden and field are full of bird loving things. I have doves on the ground, goldfinches and purple finches on the liatris heads and other flowers past bloom. They don't look so good, but the birds enjoy them.
In the field, we have dewberries, raspberries, blueberries, and lots of plants like evening primrose and mullein that the birds enjoy.
I am trying to make my garden into a natural place for feeding birds and butterflies. Each year, it gets a little better.
I am curious to know what a grackle is!
Here in coastal Wales, we have sparrows, starlings, [European] robins, a wren and lots of gulls. We once had a red kite fly over us - and we often watch a grey heron in winter.
P.S. [I know only one is a bird, but ...] I'd love to see a chickadee, cardinal or chipmunk!
Beautiful capture, Michelle! Soon I'll start feeding the birds again too. Heard the blue jays calling yesterday, a signal of autumn to come.

We get hummingbirds at my fuchsia all the time, but I'm never out with my camera when they appear!
We don't have many birds around here, only cliff swallows on a regular basis, right where we live. These guys look like they are busy! :<)

sparrows are really declining in number over here in the UK, so we're always specially glad to see them. Unfortunately we don't have a garden as such, just a shared space at the back, which is visited by blackbirds, robins, blue tits and sparrows with some winter thrushes in the winter sometimes. We get a lot of swifts flying around in the summer.
Nice seeing the sparrows getting a bite to eat. Grackles can definitely be aggressive. I have a lot of sparrows and occasionally grackles come pushing in but not too often.
I would love to have a bird feeder, but with 4 cats that would not be a good idea. However, the park across the road has many visitor - during the day I have seen pigeons, hadeda ibises, european starlings, fiscals, mousebirds, crows, barbets, laughing doves, ring necked doves and egyptian geese. at night I have seen cape eagle owls and dikkops (thick knee). I didn't know we had that many until you posed the question.
Oops, how can I forget the good old sparrows.
I'm always amazed you know which bird is what. I do not.
We don't have a bird feeder here, but I see birds all the time. We have a couple of acres of natural grasses, and we get some birds that nest right in the tufts of grass, but I don't know what they are. I see hummingbirds outside the kitchen window regularly. And hawks are common. I've even had a hawk come at my dog Socks when I've been walking him, they are substantially larger than him. I hear owls at night but I've never seen one.
The grackles have finally moved on from here but for a while it was annoying..I have a lot of different birds visiting my feeders and bringing their babies..I love the summer time....Michelle
That's funny, as I just mentioned sparrows in my last post. I don't know a ton of birds, but I enjoy watching them.
Isn't that cool? We've seen lots of birds gathering in the trees already. They are getting stocked up on food, i think. It's almost time to put the feeders out again.

We get quite a few types: sparrows, chickadees, bluejays, robins, we even had cedar waxwings once - and a whole lot of crows. And woodpeckers, don't forget them. Actually, there's a charcoal gray bird that I don't know the name of, and a bird with yellow markings, also don't know the name of - we get them regularly,as well.
Our sparrow population seems to be dwindling! Not sure why! This is a lovely photo!
Talking of feeders, for some reason, even though I have linked to this blog, the feed does not update! I suddenly realised it is not moving up my blog list, so came to check!

I like grackles, mostly because of the sound of the word "grackle." My backyard is woodsy. A red-tailed hawk has a nest there. I see lots of crows, blue jays, cardinals, and robins.

I've never been much into bird feeders. We do have some quail out behind our condo.
