Fleeting Moments

When I spotted the first rabbit it was alone, a single cottontail hopping around a stop sign.  It's tiny nose stuck close to the morning's wet ground. I was standing in the kitchen when I saw the rabbit out my window. When I'd stepped outside onto the back deck.  It'd gone.

That fleeting moment, however, coaxed me to look around the neighborhood one last time before stepping back inside my house. My spirits were lifted once again when I saw, not one but, two rabbits sniffing around the neighbor's storage building. Another neighbor's chocolate lab began to bark and caused them to take shelter beneath a butterfly bush. I watched as their cottontails bobbed through the cool morning's breeze.

What a lovely photo. (I clicked on it to see the rabbit better. :) Rabbits are such fun to watch. Before we moved we had a very tame one in our back yard that I loved to watch. The rabbits out in the country were we now live aren't quite so friendly...

Beautiful words and photograph. I feel like I was there with you watching the rabbits. We haven't had as many rabbits in the neighborhood as last year but I do enjoy them when I see them. I hope you have a pleasant day.

By the way, I thought the same thing about the limits on places for the wildlife when I saw the mourning doves on the railroad tracks. I'm sure they hear the train long before it gets there but I couldn't help but think what a risky place it was for them.

How lovely to read about Mocca on CGP's blog yesterday, and to read about more bunnies today!

We never see rabbits here. I clicked to see them better, too. That is a pretty bush. Do you get butterflies??

Gorgeous butterfly bush (I had no success with the one I planted). Nice to see them in pairs, isn't it? A solo rabbit seems a bit sad to me. (I hope the choc lab doesn't get wind of them.)

Kateri~ i'm sorry to hear you had to leave behind your friendly rabbit when you moved. maybe after awhile the 'new' rabbits will warm up to you like the one you left.

TC yes, doesn't it make you want one of your own to cuddle. hope all is well.

AL thanks Al, glad you liked the photo. sorry you don't get to see as many there.

Christina yes, the butterfly bush can grow out quite beautifully.

Nature Nut thanks, glad you like my photo & accompanying words. lately, i feel as though my words aren't as creative as they once were but, i guess they'll revisit me someday, :)

hey Carver glad you liked the post. i enjoy sharing bits of my day with you and my other blogging friends. you guys are my second family :)

i'm sure you're right about the doves hearing the train long before it approaches them but still it's a risky place for them to be. i wish there were more wildlife preserves for their freedom to be wherever they wanted, sigh.

Kat sorry to hear your butterfly bush didn't do well. maybe next time. and the chocolate lab did end up barking at them so they hopped away, sigh... last night before i returned home from pse class a single rabbit made it's way to my yard. another missed chance for a closeup, lol. it's like they know when i'm gone.

Lisa yes, looking around and enjoying the moment is very nice, very relaxing. hope all is well.

have a great day everyone~

gardenpath i'm so sorry Gardenpath somehow I missed commenting on your question. my neighbor says that her butterfly bush does get some butterflies. and the bush itself smells really nice too.

It is always special to see wild life when you least expect it. I find that it lifts my spirit.
Enjyed catching up on your other posts.
Good luck with the photo shop training. I find that I am too technologically challenged for that software. I still tend to view and compose my shots in the same way as when I still used film.
Have a great weekend.
