I met some great people from the Salato Wildlife Center who brought a great horned owl and a black rat snake for the 100+ women to meet. It was exciting to be so close to the wildlife. Though we couldn't touch the owl we were afforded the privilege to hold the snake. At first I only took pictures. As I warmed up to him I had my picture taken touching him and later holding him in my lap, his tongue tickling my arm.
I learned that a grapevine is not just for climbing but stores water for those needing a drink. I learned what a spice bush is and that you can make tea with it's leaves safely. You could eat the berries too but they won't taste good for its big seed. I learned that you can use the yeast of the huckleberry for cooking. I can now identify a beech tree and it's nuts. I learned that spring water isn't as safe to drink as I once thought. And, I ate a hickory nut for the first time. It was really good considering I don't like or eat nuts.
So... I wait for next year's workshops where I may try fly fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and ghillie making. Coming soon... photos!!
red
On a short walk from my home I saw this and another plant I couldn't identify. If you're the first to identify this plant correctly I will allow you a free download of my photograph. You will need a valid email address so I can email you a direct link to my dropbox account. From there you'll be able to download my photo. Have a great day everyone and good luck to the identifier.

dappled gray
Remember those back roads with the deer hiding in the crop? It's on that same road we saw this dappled, gray horse. When we drove by the first time she was bucking around playfully with the black horse she was grazing with. Upon the second drive through she was throwing her head back. She was such a priss. Here she is grazing as if she'd done nothing prior to us stopping.

can you see her?
My husband and I rode around some back roads last night when we came across some wildlife. Can you spot her too? Look closely and name what you see in the comments below. Click to enlarge image. Have a great day~
playin' basketball with the sun
That mid summer morning our basketball goal was standing in perfect posture. Its orange rimmed goal provoking the rising sun to align its best 2 point shot. Already on the ground photographing a lone morning glory I see the sun going for ALL hoop. It's by my fifth frame I was playin' basketball with the sun.
frog
Knowing how much I love nature and it's counterparts my husband brought this frog to me. He'd been mowing when he'd come across this little fella and decided to catch him for a photo session. Isn't he adorable??
